Celebrating the full spectrum of hospitality, from bakers to sommeliers and everything in between, the fourth year of the scholarship promises to unearth a fresh host of local talent.
This year’s winner will set off on a whirlwind work experience adventure taking in lessons from some of the best in the business at three carefully selected establishments.
The winner will work closely with Melbourne Food & Wine and Hostplus to select three world-class venues anywhere in the world.
The winner will be sent on the three week trip to three destinations, with flights, accommodation and spending money included.
On return to Australia the winner will embark on a year-long mentorship with a local industry leader.
2016 scholarship recipient, Elika Rowell, Head Roaster at Square One Coffee Roasters, will soon be travelling across South America and the USA including a stop at the next instalment of Re:CO (Regarding: Coffee) the specialty coffee symposium taking place in Seattle.
“This experience will give me a greater understanding of the different aspects of sustainability within the coffee industry, which I cannot see from where I currently stand,” Rowell said.
“I think to call yourself a professional in any industry, you must continuously strive for knowledge, and I will now have the opportunity to express to people just how important sustainability is, in all of these different facets.”
