The race to the awards

Nominations are pouring in for this years awards for excellence, and standards look to be better than ever

What an amazing result to this years awards nominations! We have already topped 2010 nominations and we have not closed all of the entries yet. Once again, the really pleasing aspect of our nominees is the large number of new restaurants that have lodged their entry form. In an environment where, for the first time ever, closing rates exceed opening rates, there is still a good number of businesses wanting to show off their new venture through the HOSTPLUS Restaurant & Catering Awards for Excellence.

Whilst there is always some disappointment from those that do not win awards, I hope that this year, with a greater focus on plate ratings, feedback to awards entrants and potentially more categories, there will be more happy members.

In Queensland and New South Wales the number of events has been reduced to reduce the cost of award presentation. These savings are being invested in the awards process so that we are assured of the best possible awards system.

We should all be proud of the restaurant and catering awards and celebrate the winners and finalists. It is a ‘point in time’ judgement, but it is a very accurate reflection of the business at that point in time. Good luck in the 2011 Awards. I look forward to celebrating your success at the Awards events.
