While you work on your business, your Association is developing training packages to address the skills shortage.
The year is all but over and I hope that you are being swamped by the Christmas rush. Whilst the effort of the holiday season is probably taking its toll, I would also guess that the skills and labour shortage is making things even more trying.
R&CA is working hard during this time to develop the recruitment and careers tool to be distributed under our Discover Hospitality brand. Whilst the resources will not help this year, they will be promoted through schools (and other channels) next year. The plan is to make hospitality the industry of choice for the right people. The built-in attitudinal assessment will give the prospective employee a reliable guide as to which jobs are going to best suit them. If the industry can attract more of the right people, attrition will slow and the demand for additional staff might get back to a more reasonable ask.
R&CA is also addressing the quality of training through the Institute for Trades Skills Excellence and in advocating for changes to the hospitality training package, and providing careers advice to school students through a Government network known as Careers Advice Australia. This is just some of the work that R&CA is doing in the employment and training area. The Association understands that some investment now will help alleviate further challenges in years to come. I hope your staffing holds up this Christmas. Rest assured we are using your busy time to make things easier in the future.
