The industry’s landscape continues to shift with OWS requiring additional compliance.
This has been a year of turmoil for all of you trying to comply with the shifting sands of workplace relations. I hope you have been able to attend one of the many government-supported sessions the association has been running for most of this year.
You may have caught up with the latest changes in which the government will address some of the glitches in the application of WorkChoices; in particular, the record keeping obligations. You can call 1300 722 878 (option 1) for assistance.
One reason to clear up questions now is that there will be additional compliance activity through the Office of Workplace Services (OWS) in January 2007. OWS have assured us they are only after those businesses intent on doing the wrong thing; however, they will be contacting some 2,500 restaurateurs across the country.
If you have internet access, there is information at www.restaurantcater.asn.au. If not, please call your association and we can send the information you need. We are making sure that if you follow the information in our materials, workshops and seminars, you will not have action taken against you, so please help us to help you.
The association has also convinced the OWS to conduct the compliance work after the busy Christmas/New Year period. I hope you trade well through the silly season and I look forward to being of service again in 2007.
