This year has been a wild ride, but we’ve had some substantial victories too.
Well, what a ride we have had through 2009! The year started in the malaise of being confronted with a national IR Award that would have destroyed the industry as we know it. If that was not bad enough, we have then been hit with an ambit claim for a 200 per cent increase in the fee to play music and a ban on weekend surcharges!
It is just as well that we eventually made some headway in achieving a separate restaurant and catering award, had the proposal to implement food safety plans sent off for a review and the zero increase in the minimum wage, as signs that the industry is being listened too.
The roller coaster ride of highs and lows has taken its toll on the association and industry. Leaching from one crisis to the next, one political battleground to the next, has meant an extreme workload. The associations have had to divert resources away from some of our traditional services to an advocacy focus. This may have left some questions unanswered, for which we apologise. As things settle down, we will stablise our service offerings. We hope to come back even more strongly with even more consistent services across Australia! On a world scale, we do very well in the association service offering; please stay with us as we resume the period of strong growth.
