With winter on its way, it’s essential to reduce the risk of flu in your restaurant or cafe. Making sure that chefs and wait staff aren’t showing up at the kitchen when they’re sniffling will go a long way to preventing disease, but it’s also important to recommend flu vaccine.
“Research clearly shows that the flu vaccine is the most effective way to prevent influenza disease and outbreaks. The risk of flu is usually reduced by 50-60 per cent in children and adults receiving the vaccine,” said Professor Kristine Macartney of the Sydney Medial School and director of the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance.
Professor Robert Booy of the Sydney Medical School and National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance also strongly recommends vaccination. “The vaccines this year are more effective and the community should be reassured that they will get good protection,” Professor Booy said.
