After five years as president and seeing many invaluable initiatives into the industry; it’s time to go, Con.
This will be my last column as president of Restaurant & Catering Australia. It has been my absolute pleasure to lead this organisation for the past five years.
There is no doubt that there are some real challenges operating a national organisation in a federation. Ours is, however, one of the more functional structures and this has enabled some significant achievements over recent years.
The completion of the Restaurant & Catering Industry Action Agenda was a watershed. The final report showed $2.3 million flowed in programs to the industry over this period, with important initiatives like the Certified Professional Restaurateur Program (CPR).
The establishment of the Savour Australia Brand campaign was also an important outcome, with the ratings scheme, Food & Wine Atlas, Restaurant Guide and the Savour Australia Card all flowing from the brand. The establishment of Discover Hospitality and Green Table Australia have also been recent highlights, offering relief to the two major future challenges—the labour market and environmental sustainability.
The unfinished businesses of my term is workplace relations—the major platform of the incumbent government. I urge your support in fighting for the future in this regard.
It has been a great pleasure to bear my soul in this column each month and to stand tall as your representative. Thank you!
President, Restaurant & Catering Australia
