The hot weather has a big impact on Australian consumers’ eating and drinking habits.
Iced beverages, for example, perform exceptionally well, with an average annual servings growth of 13 per cent in the past six years, according to market research company NPD.
In fact, the iced beverages category (iced coffees, frappes, frozen drinks and smoothies) has seen average purchase consumption doubling in the same period.
Consider these facts:
- Nearly one in two Australians purchase a cold drink from a commercial outlet every day.
- The main consumer for iced beverages is under 35s, making up 66 per cent of all purchases.
- Three out of four iced beverages are purchased as an accompaniment to food.
- Key opportunities are evident around all snacking occasions and lunch.
