The Association’s Lifetime Achievers Awards pays homage to some exceptional members and shows the industry is in good hands.
The Lifetime Achievers Event in Canberra on March 11 was, once again, an exceptional display of what makes our industry so great. There was hardly a dry eye as we heard the stories from the six individuals who have given their life to the industry.
Unfortunately Frank Sabbadini passed away between being awarded a Lifetime Achiever Award and the presentation dinner. This made his story even more moving—his son Stephen’s acceptance speech was heartfelt and did his father proud. Frank was an amazing contributor to our industry and to the Association. His generosity and commitment was extraordinary and it was an honour to be able to honour this past R&CA President.
It never ceases to amaze me how the Lifetime Achievers Awards showcases our multi-cultural industry. This year, we had Hermann Schneider of Swiss heritage, Gino Merlo and Frank Sabbadini from Italy and Brian Lawes of English stock. They have all brought their talents to Australia and contributed to what is arguably our most creative and vibrant industry.
With ministers Martin Ferguson and Dr Craig Emerson also paying tribute to the industry on the night, the Lifetime Achievers program and Henschke Dinner did not miss a beat with the change of government. We raise our glasses to our sponsors, Fine Wine Partners and Henschke, for their continued support—plus all our great restaurateurs and caterers.
